About Rosemary Jones
Rosemary first learned about natural medicine at the age of 12 when her
mother took her to a naturopathic doctor. Ever since then, she's been
pushing vitamin pills and herbal teas on unsuspecting friends.
After several years in journalism and publishing, Rosemary combined her many
interests to open a bookstore in Seattle specializing in health and
alternative medicine. Healing Pages Bookstore opened in 1993 and features
literature from around the world and caters to health professionals as well
as the general public.
In 1998, Prima Publishing asked her to do a book about the many schools and
professions that fall under the umbrella of "alternative medicine." The
result, Educational and Career Opportunities in Alternative Medicine, covers
more than 40 professions, both licensed and un-licensed, and reviews hundreds
of courses offered in the U.S. and Canada. Rosemary interviewed several hundred
professionals and sent out even more written surveys as part of her research
for this project. Recognizing that many schools are receiving more applicants
than they have room for, it was the first book of its kind to list
application deadlines as well as general prerequisites. It is also the only
book to cover nationally accredited degree programs in midwifery and
osteopathic medicine as well as acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, and
chiropractic programs.
She continues to keep in touch with the schools and do various articles on
the natural medicine profession for various publications.
Since all work makes for a dull girl, Rosemary spends her spare time
collecting children's books (what booksellers do on their day off -- visit
other booksellers!). That led to the publication of the series, A Collector's
Guide To Children's Books: 1850-1950, written with her mother Diane (who is
also a dedicated collector). Now completing volume 3 for Schroeder
Publishing, they spend even more time in used bookstores under the thin
excuse of "I'm working, not shopping."
Some day, Rosemary hopes to be able to take time off again for a long trip.
Past travels included living in China, crossing Russia on the Trans-Siberian
Express, wandering through the temples of Bangkok, exploring Inca ruins in
Peru, and climbing the mountains of Wales. Right now, whenever the store
ships books to another country, she puts a colored dot on the world map and
fantasizes about doing hand delivery.
