| | The "Point" of Acupressure |
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), stimulating certain points by pressure encourages the flow of vital energy (Qi) along the meridian pathways.
How is acupressure practiced?
Acupressure practitioners often use acupressure to control chronic pain such as muscular pain, migraine headaches or backaches. Acupressure can be integrated into almost any type of alternative medicine or natural health practice, but is most commonly offered by bodyworkers.
What acupressure degrees or certificates are available?
Since acupressure does not require the use of needles like acupuncture, it is generally classified as massage, and training may be offered through massage schools or independent seminars for bodyworkers. Some massage schools offer acupressure as a specialization. Training usually includes the basics of TCM, the organ systems, yin/yang concepts, and so on. Acupressure classes may also qualify as Continuing Education Units (CEU) for massage therapists.
