What is the Feldenkrais Method?
Named after its originator, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, a physicist, the Feldenkrais Method focuses on helping people expand their range of motion and improve breathing and body alignment. The system uses more than a thousand different exercises to help the body reprogram the brain for better mind/body function.
How is the Feldenkrais Method practiced?
Feldenkrais teachers can work with students either one-on-one or in group settings. In a session, the Feldenkrais practitioner communicates the movements through slow, gentle touch. Comfortably clothed, the student is led through a series of precise movements that alter habitual patterns and provide new learning directly to the neuromuscular system. Due to the nonintrusive nature of the Feldenkrais Method, it has been found to be very effective for those with physical handicaps that prevent more traditional types of bodywork.
What Feldenkrais degrees or certificates are available?
Feldenkrais training programs that lead to professional certification are usually three to four years.
