Reiki Practitioner Training Education
Practitioners may complete Reiki training programs that last anywhere from two days to a few weeks to years, depending on the level of certification desired. There is no governing body that determines the various levels, but most Reiki schools or organizations have a beginning, intermediate and Reiki master level. Beginning classes can take two days and cost about $200, while a Reiki master program can cost around $1,600 and take a year or more to complete.
Reiki healing attempts to align and stimulate biomagnetic energy flowing through the body, and this helps promote healing and lessen stress. Students study anatomy, psychology, kinesiology and other energy-related subjects. They learn how to be sensitive to their intuition and the energy currents of the eight "subtle bodies," or energy zones, that correspond to different parts of the body. As experts in the field, Reiki masters can also teach Reiki to other practitioners.
Reiki Practitioner Licensure
Many private Reiki education companies teach this healing art and offer a Reiki certification or license of their own. In most states, however, no license or certification is required to practice Reiki.
The Reiki Licensing Commission for Reiki Masters and Healers (RLCRMH) has called for stricter standards of Reiki teaching, and awards the following license designations:

Reiki Practitioner Salary
Many holistic health practitioners combine Reiki with other disciplines, such as massage and acupuncture. Therefore, depending on what you offer in your practice, the amount you can earn varies greatly. Here are some factors that can influence your Reiki practitioner salary:
- Your Reiki experience
- Your Reiki training
- The demand for Reiki treatment in your area
- The professional Reiki practitioner competition in your area
According to Salary.com, a beginning Reiki healer may expect to earn about $18,000 per year, while an experienced Coach Instructor or Reiki Master Instructor may earn up to $50,000 (Dover, New Hampshire) or $70,000 (Seattle, Washington) per year or more. It all depends on your area and your area's interest in Reiki.
Many licensed massage therapists incorporate Reiki into their healing, and their salaries can range anywhere from $10,000 to $60,000, depending on whether they work full- or part-time, and where their practice is located. Traditionally, many practitioners charge anywhere from $25 to $60 an hour, and hourly rates depend upon the experience and location of the practitioner. Reiki Master's have more potential for income through teaching and lecturing.
Reiki Practitioner Job Outlook
With the emerging field of energy medicine, Reiki is enjoying increasing popularity as a form of treatment, as well as a field of practice for practitioners and Masters. The field is expanding constantly and so are the opportunities. Many practitioners start their Reiki career with their own private practice, while others add it to their existing massage, nursing, chiropractic or acupuncture practice. Some hospitals, such as the New England Rehabilitation Hospital, have hired Reiki practitioners on their staff.
