Thai Yoga Massage Overview
Thai yoga massage is a slow and gentle form of massage performed on a floor mat or futon, instead of a massage table, with both therapist and client dressed in loosed comfortable clothing. No oils or creams are used. The therapist assists the client into a series of stretches based on yoga poses (asanas), while applying pressure to specific points on the client's hands, feet and elbows. Synchronized breathing between the therapist and the client is the key to the energy exchange that makes Thai yoga massage so effective.
Benefits of Thai Yoga Massage
The benefits of Thai yoga massage are based on the yogic belief that "prana" or life energy circulates through the body along a network of energy lines called "prana nadi." It is believed that imbalance and ill health is caused by disturbances, or blockages, in the flow of energy along these lines. Thai yoga massage focuses on ten of the most important energy lines, along which are found a variety of important acupressure points. By stimulating the free flow of energy along these lines, Thai yoga massage guides the body back to equilibrium.
Specific benefits of Thai yoga massage include:
- Deep tranquility and meditative calm
- Relaxation of muscular tension
- Renewal of strength and vital energy
- Improvements to sluggish circulation
- Relief from chronic fatigue
- Release of blocked or unresolved emotions
- Stimulation of the immune system
