Our Purpose

The Purpose of this College is to provide a Master's level education primarily in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with adjunctive training in other CAM therapies and Integrative Western Medical Sciences. This education is specifically designed to prepare our students to meet the certification and licensure requirements of the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the Florida State Board of Acupuncture, respectively. It also prepares our students to enter the field of Chinese Medicine with competency as licensed primary health care providers. In addition, the Purpose of this institution is to support the professional development of our Graduates and other professionals by offering advanced studies at the post graduate level.

The Program

Awarded American Association of Oriental Medicine (AAOM) "School of the Year 2003". Located in beautiful Sarasota on the gulf coast of Florida, the school offers a Master's degree in Oriental Medicine designed to provide the student with an in depth understanding of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Graduates of the program who pass the national licensing exam administered by NCCAOM are able to practice as Acupuncture Physicians in the state of Florida as well as those states that accept NCCAOM diplomate status. The program integrates Oriental medicine with a comprehensive western medical sciences module that together enables the student to work closely with western doctors and allied health practitioners in providing quality, comprehensive health care. The 3,000 hour curriculum includes 945 hours of Oriental medicine and acupuncture science, 525 hours of western biomedical sciences, 450 hours of herbal sciences, and 60 hours of adjunctive therapies. In addition, students receive extensive hands-on clinical experience with 900 hours of supervised practice in the student clinic. The excellent facilities, outstanding experienced faculty, intimate environment, small class sizes, and personal attention provides for an ideal, nurturing learning environment. The school is accredited by ACAOM, and is working towards offering a doctoral degree in the near future.

Educational Objectives

  • Graduates will be competent to diagnose, treat and prevent various internal, external, pediatric, gynecological, sensory, and orthopedic diseases according to the principles and techniques of Oriental Medicine.
  • Graduates will be knowledgeable about how to access informational resources pertaining to health care in general and Oriental medicine in particular.
  • Graduates will be able to communicate in a professional manner with other health care providers for the purposes of referral and consultation.
  • Graduates will know how to act ethically and professionally with patients in an Oriental medical practice.
  • Graduates will know how to establish and manage an oriental medical practice
  • Post Graduates and other professionals, who so choose, will be trained in advanced AOM studies provided through special courses and seminars.

Accreditation Status

The professional master's level diploma program in oriental medicine of the East West College of Natural Medicine is accredited with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). ACAOM is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioners.
