This Academy has established itself as a reputable establishment in the field of health, beauty and well-being and continues to strive for excellence and professionalism in massage therapy, facial skin care, beauty therapy and nail technology. Academy programs in natural health and fitness began in 1979; In 1983, the Academy became a licensed massage establishment; In 1984, received a license as a school of massage therapy and facial skin care, and as of August 2000 approved to teach the Nail Technology program. The mission of the Academy of Palm Beach is to provide skill, development and quality career education to become competent specialists in a high-demand career field. The Academy of Palm Beach primary goal is to train career minded individuals and offer education which will prepare our students to meet all the requirements and obtain skills necessary to become licensed specialists with proper training and experience in their careers. Presently, the Academy is providing professional courses, treatments and Continuing Education courses in Shiatsu, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Facial Skin Care, Beauty Therapy, Body Wraps, Lymphatic Drainage, Lava/Hot Rock Massage, and Nutritional Health Management. We offer Federal Financial Aid through grants and loans for those who qualify, and we are approved for Veterans Training Benefits. The Academy is accredited through the ACCSCT, an accrediting commission recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education. Our curriculum is approved by the Florida Board of Massage, Continuing Education Provider (MCE-7) and the Association of Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP). Programs of StudyMassage Therapy: (500 and 624 hours) These program of study in massage therapy are designed to teach and train students in a variety of situations that may be encountered as an entry level massage therapist. Massage therapy is presently one of the fastest growing career professions in the United States.
Some of the curriculum covered in the 624 hour course includes: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Massage Theory and Practice, Hydrotherapy, Good Business Practice, Statutes/Rules, AIDS, Aromatherapy, and an introduction to other modalities such as Reflexology, Digestive Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Acupressure, Thalassotherapy (Seaweed Wraps), Soma Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Sports Massage, Touch for Health, Lava/Hot Rock Massage, CPR certification and Tai Chi to help develop correct use of energy in daily life, relieve stress, tension and emotion and to learn to develop yourself before you can help others. Facial Skin Care - Facial Specialist/Esthetician: (300 Hours) This program of study is designed to meet all Florida requirements and learning objectives as an entry level "Facial Specialist"
Course curriculum includes introduction to European advanced methods and techniques, Structures and Functions of the Skin, Diseases of the Glands, Lesions, Facial Massage, Corrective Facials, Product Knowledge, Facial Clinicals, Aromatherapy, Muscle Toning Massage Techniques, Thalassotherapy (Seaweed Facials), Light Therapy, Brow Shaping, Tweezing, Waxing, Introduction to Electrical Hair Removal, Statutes, AIDS, Sanitation and an introduction to other modalities. Beauty Therapy: (900 Hours) The Beauty Therapy program of study is designed to teach and train students with the knowledge and requirements necessary in entry-level positions in massage therapy and skin care. Beauty Therapy, which is popular in Europe, includes training in massage therapy, facial skin care, aromatherapy, thalassotherapy and body wraps enabling the graduate student to qualify for a variety of positions with many establishments, spas, resorts and full service salons or the ability to become self-employed. The Academy was the first Florida School licensed to teach this program of study. Nail Technology: (240 Hours) This course is designed to prepare students as nail technicians; learning the art of manicuring, pedicure and adding extensions to the natural nail. In addition, students will learn the art of sculpting nails, including overlays of gel, silk wrapping, nail repair, fabric wrapping and acrylic. Also covered is the anatomy and physiology of the hand, arm and foot, the nail and its disorders, business ethics, the theory of chemical composition in products and safely in the school and salon. Cosmetology: (1200 hours) This program of study is designed to teach and train students with the necessary skills, knowledge and practical experience necessary for the student to apply for licensure in the State of Florida and work as an entry-level cosmetologist. Students will learn proper use of hair implements, coloring, chemical treatments, hairstyling, hair cutting, shampooing, conditioning and facial skin care, waxing and hair removal, manicuring, pedicuring and nail extensions.
