Mission Statement

We prepare competent practitioners of acupuncture and Oriental medicine -- men and women of high character and good will -- who, by virtue of their work and practice, will lead our profession to be valued, accepted and trusted as efficacious health care.

About ASAOM

Founded in 1995, we are a small college surrounded by mountains in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. We emphasize the truths and methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as expressed through the ancient 5 Branches - Cosmology (I Ching, Tao Te Ching), Qi Cultivation (Qi Gong, T'ai Chi), Asian Bodywork Therapy (Tuina), Chinese Herbology and Acupuncture.

Accreditation

The Master of Acupuncture and the Master of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine programs of the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners.

Graduates are qualified for licensing in Arizona and many other states, and are eligible to sit for the certification examinations of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology and Asian Bodywork Therapy/Tuina.

ASAOM is also a certified professional school of the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA). At the end of the second year of study, students graduate from the Asian Bodywork Therapy/Tuina program and are certified as Tuina practitioners; they may, if they wish, start a private Tuina practice.

Why come to ASAOM?

A few good reasons by virtue of our setting:

  • the cohesiveness of each class facilitates personal growth and well being
  • we involve students in patient care from the beginning
  • we provide students the opportunity to experience several traditional ways of practicing Oriental medicine in order to encourage understanding and respect for different approaches to traditional health care

A few good reasons by virtue of our faculty:

  • our teachers are skilled practitioners -- all have practices in the community; they represent many clinical traditions; and they are skilled teachers
  • among the teachers are native Chinese as well as Americans who have studied with Chinese acupuncturists
  • our instructional methods emphasize clinic-based problem solving
  • because classes are small, student-teacher interaction is close

A few good reasons by virtue of our staff:

  • we are committed to the success of each individual student,
  • we do our best to uphold the integrity of our standards as an administration while maintaining a friendly and fun learning environment

Best regards,
ASAOM staff
