Welcome to the Green Mountain Institute for Integrative Therapy and the School for International Bodywork. Come train with us in Integrative Bodywork in Vermont, USA, the Algarve in Portugal and in other beautiful locations around the world.

At the Green Mountain Institute we seek to provide an environment in which people can change and grow. Our training workshops offer opportunities to explore the deeper levels of ourselves, how we live in our bodies and how we move.

The bodywork we practice and teach is never mechanical. We strive to be sensitive to the whole being - physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual. The act of touching another is profound. It should never be taken for granted. Bodywork sessions and massage training can be transformational experiences.

About Us

The Green Mountain Institute exists to provide expert training in massage and to offer high quality individual massage and bodywork sessions. We believe the most important attribute a massage practitioner has is her/his ability to make contact. To be truly present. To have a free flow of energy. To have hands that are intelligent and fully alive. A truly present touch is in itself deeply healing. When truly present touch is combined with an educated awareness and superb technique, body work begins to have the potential to change lives.

The Directors of the Institute are Judith and Michael Jamieson, a husband and wife team with 20 years experience in bodywork and counseling. In 1993, after repeated requests to train others, they founded the Green Mountain Institute for Integrative Therapy. All our faculty are holistic practitioners with extensive experience in their field. They are also caring teachers, dedicated to helping your training be a journey of self-exploration.

Our Courses

Courses are taught in Vermont (USA), Portugal and in other locations in the U.S. and abroad. They attract a wide range of students of all ages, from varying backgrounds and from different countries. Offerings include weekends, short courses,and longer professional courses including a certification program and internship.

Through a daily warmup, attention to body mechanics and experiential exercises we encourage each student to release and grow into a more vital and alive individual. We strive to teach you according to how you learn best. We use physical,energetic, meditative and emotional approaches to increase your ability to be in the moment, fully alive and in your hands. Our goal is to help you to become a bodyworker who is able to change lives with your touch.

In order to achieve this, we keep our class sizes small, allowing us to give you more personalized attention than is usually available in most massage schools. Learn to give what many recipients tell our students is the best massage they have ever had, a massage that feels as good to give as to receive.

Professional Training

Our program in Vermont is taught in two or three week intensive segments throughout the year. After Part I, it is possible to attend the segments in any order. At present, more than 500 hours of training are available, with additional offerings planned. During the winter in Portugal we offer an intensive 3 month training session. In Part I, we teach a full Integrative Bodywork massage, a sequence of strokes designed to create a sense of flowing wholeness in the recipient. You learn basic musculoskeletal anatomy and the theory and history of massage. We work with movement, breath, sound and energetic and emotional release techniques. You give and receive sessions from fellow students.

Advanced training segments teach advanced massage techniques and different bodywork modalities as well as techniques for specific situations. You receive personalized supervision to improve and fine tune your massage. Attention is paid to the quality of your contact, precision of technique, your bodymechanics and sense of flow - the "dance" of your massage.

Programs in Vermont run from june through december.

The Portugal Program

The Portugal Program is offered every year, beginning in January.

The Portugal program is the core of our institute and our favorite program. This unique training takes place in one of the least spoiled areas of Europe, a location of spectacular natural beauty. The phrase "life changing" comes up again and again in our students' accounts of their experience in Portugal.

Accommodation is in shared apartments, a short walk from a spectacular beach. This program meets the national certification requirements. Our desire is to provide professional training in this wonderful location at a reasonable price.
