Institute of Classical Homoeopathy

Introduction

The ICH is a non-profit educational institution offering a four-year academic program covering all aspects of Classical Homeopathy, adhering to the standards of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners, currently the most rigorous standards of classical homeopathic practice in the world. The ICH has a uniquely designed, coherent and highly effective syllabus. All of the material taught comes directly from the wealth of reliable classical sources.

Today there are many different theories on the use of homoeopathic medicines, but the foundation and science of classical homoeopathy emanates from Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, and is distinct. It is based on the recognition that health and disease are a change of state in each individual and depends on the individual's life force (i.e., vitality, or dynamic energy), state of susceptibility, and inherited pre-dispositions. Scrupulous adherence to all of the principles set out in Hahnemann's Organon of Medicine is the authentic practice of classical homoeopathy.

Classical homoeopaths address the whole totality of the imbalanced individual, not separate parts. This involves investigating and evaluating all the subjective and objective symptoms of the patient, in the context of their life circumstances and environment. The individualizing characteristics, which distinguish one individual's mental, physical and emotional state from another, are scientifically analyzed and indicate the remedy needed to stimulate the restoration of balance. Classical prescribing is based on the fundamental principles, including the Law of Similars - giving the remedy which, in the provings on healthy humans (the homoeopathic equivalent of drug trials), has shown the most similar characteristic symptom picture. One remedy is given at a time in the single, smallest dose required to achieve a curative response. The remedy is never routinely repeated and never combined with other remedies.

How the ICH Differs from Other Programs

The ICH course differs from and complements others by offering an extensive, in-depth study of the philosophy through Hahnemann's writings and the work of the other classical practitioners. This Philosophy is the blueprint for effective homeopathy, and the ICH believes the enormous potential of homeopathy will only be realized through its successful implementation, promoting education in the fundamental theory and principles of homeopathy. We must have the highest standard of educational qualifications by which the public can be assured reliable, effective classical homeopathy. For the future of homeopathy, it is vital that practitioners have a firm foundation on which they can rely. The study and application of the nine "clearly comprehensible" Principles of Classical Homeopathic Philosophy forms such a foundation and cuts through the confusion of conflicting approaches. The intention of the ICH is to provide students with a deep knowledge and understanding of homeopathic philosophy; to create contemporary homeopaths equal to the dimensions of the classical material; and to cultivate in them the essential healing qualities of perception, observation, analysis, integrity, humility and compassion.

Teaching Objective

The goal of the homeopath is to restore a state of health which, homeopathy's founder, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann described as follows:

"In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force, the dynamis that animates the material body, rules with unbounded sway, and retains all parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operation, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence."

(Organon, Paragraph 9)

In order to meet this challenge students must develop a homeopathic way of thinking, and a flexible, creative mind. This is the opposite of rote learning. The success of the ICH syllabus lies in leading students, step by step, to a profound, solid understanding of homeopathy. We are dedicated to fostering a unique environment in which students feel free to participate fully and explore in varied ways the different aspects of homeopathic practice. Classes are kept small and teachers are accessible to students, encouraging questions and debate in an open, interactive atmosphere. This allows a personal as well as academic evolution over the four years of the program. The ICH has a strong commitment to maintaining the highest standard of practice of classical homeopathy. Students are asked to have that same level of commitment, so that they may become a team of really excellent, confident homeopaths.
