The International School of ShiatsuAbout Our SchoolThe International School of Shiatsu (ISS) was founded in 1978 by Saul Goodman. The school provides a 640-hour curriculum for shiatsu practitioner training. The program is based on Saul Goodman's research which blends Western and Eastern theories of bodywork and natural healing. ISS also offers workshops, from introductory to advanced levels, for everyone interested in bodywork and natural healing. The ISS is:
What is Shiatsu?Shiatsu is a highly specialized form of energy-based bodywork. The shiatsu practitioner assesses the energy condition of the client and selects appropriate techniques to meet those needs. They then apply shiatsu, (thumb or palm pressure), to specific energy points and pathways on the fully clothed client. As firm, supportive pressure is applied, energy is gathered or dispersed as needed to create balance in the body. This allows the body to reach a state of deep relaxation, creating space for the integration of mind, body and spirit. Introduction to Shiatsu: Beginner's WeekendStudents may begin studies in January, March, July or September. Can one weekend change your life? Consider this weekend introduction to shiatsu bodywork as a catalyst for change in your life. Learn the theory, feel the energy, experience the changes. Take home self-development techniques and the whole body outline. Participants must be able to kneel on the floor as this shiatsu course requires the use of futon mats. Since the shiatsu school is located in a small town in PA, we recommend students be independent and mature before moving here. The students must be fully responsible for all their own housing and life needs. Shiatsu Foundation & Practitioner ProgramTouch is essential to life! The ISS shiatsu program is based on Zen shiatsu, Masunaga meridians, macrobiotics and Saul Goodman's shiatsu Shin Tai. Throughout the program, students learn the theory and techniques of shiatsu while developing their own energy and wellness. Students may take the program purely for self-improvement or to build the foundation for a new career. Courses are available in an intensive format or during evenings and weekends. Students can attend part time while continuing their full-time employment. Studies require a commitment of 2 - 3 years. Upon successful completion of all requirements, students receive an ISS Diploma and are eligible to become members of the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA). National exams in Asian bodywork are offered annually by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Career training loans are available for those who qualify. If you are interested in any of our programs and would like to find out more, please Request Information. |
