Institute of Taoist Education & Acupuncture
Classical Five-Element Acupuncture (CF-EA) is a different, amazing, ancient and unique form of Oriental medicine. Pursue a Master of Acupuncture in Classical Five-Element Acupuncture degree--the only such degree in the world! Classical Five-Element Acupuncture is a living oral tradition passed directly from teacher to student, as it has been for thousands of years. The Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture (ITEA) is dedicated to teaching this ancient system of healing as brought to the West by the late Professor J.R. Worsley. CF-EA's tradition is rooted in the understanding of nature and how natural laws work to heal. ITEA is committed to graduating practitioners who have a deep respect for the integrity of the human body, mind and spirit as it exists within nature and who have developed the inner qualities needed to be effective healers. Our program is for students who take responsibility for learning--students who are eager to learn academically, through the senses, through their own personal journey and through a relationship with all aspects of nature. AccreditationITEA's program is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which is the recognized agency for the approval of programs preparing acupuncturists and Oriental medicine practitioners. The ITEA ProgramSince 1996, the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture's 4-year program has taught the oral tradition of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture in limited class sizes to ensure the highest quality of learning. The ITEA educational experience is different than that which is common in the Western world, and is based on the spiral approach to learning used in traditional Eastern education where the teacher is a guide who helps each student uncover the wisdom inherent within. Students of CF-EA are not taught to diagnose according to symptoms, but to diagnose as did the ancient Chinese, by discerning energetic disharmony through the subtle and highly refined observational and diagnostic cues of color, sound, odor and emotion. ITEA's students receive thorough training and practice in the use of these forms of diagnosis in their classroom experience and as student practitioners in the clinic. Master of AcupunctureITEA's 4-year Master of Acupuncture program is structured into intensives to allow for greater in-depth learning and understanding. The four intensives offered during each of the first and second years of training are 15 days in length, allowing students to work while studying. It is not necessary for students to live near the school for these years, easily accommodating out-of-area students. Intensives are offered August-September, October-November, January-February and April-May. Years three and four are when students begin treating in the student clinic, which means they have to live locally. The third year contains two intensives of 16 days. Short class sessions of one to four days are scheduled, usually near weekends, during the third and fourth years. Intensives are offered August-September, October-November, January-February and April-May. Program HighlightsITEA supports each student on an individual path of learning by allowing each to progress at his or her own pace. Parts of the program will take some students more time to assimilate than others and it is our experience that each student learns differently. Therefore, there is a policy of "no failure" at the school--students merely re-sit all homework and exams until they are passed.
The ITEA Clinic provides students with the opportunity to treat a wide range of people, and many have found it extremely beneficial when other forms of treatment have been unsuccessful. The program leads students toward personal understanding and enrichment and toward more balanced relationships with others and with nature. Students become more than just skilled technicians--they become healers in the deepest sense. FacultyITEA's gifted and dedicated international faculty inspire students in all aspects of the program's curriculum. Faculty members include Dr. Judy Worsley, master of the lineage and Hilary Skellon, daughter of Professor J.R. Worsley. All CF-EA core faculty have been awarded teaching certification through study with Professor J.R. Worsley and Dr. Judy Worsley. The majority of core faculty members are practitioners who continue to train in the lineage at its highest levels. Small class sizes allow for individual instruction and attention to all students. In this way, each student's individual potential and learning experience is maximized.
