About NCNMNCNM offers four graduate professional degrees in accredited and recognized programs that prepare you for licensed practice in many states and provinces:
Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest city of Portland, Oregon, NCNM provides and fosters a challenging, eclectic, and rigorous academic experience. You will be immersed in new ways of thinking about not only medicine and health care, but human beings and the world. You will be on the forefront of natural medicine, both eastern and western, and of integrated medical education, research, and patient care. NCNM's Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine is a four–year program that trains holistic primary care physicians. In turn, the program prepares graduates to sit for board examinations in states and provinces that license ND s (naturopathic physicians). The program emphasizes a distinctive approach to health and healing – an approach that considers the whole person when treating specific conditions, one that seeks to diagnose and treat causes wherever possible. Naturopathic medicine is heir to the vitalistic tradition of medicine in the Western world. This is evidenced by its emphasis in treating disease through the stimulation, enhancement, and support of the inherent healing power of the body. Chosen methods of treatment respect this natural healing process. Naturopathic Principles of Healing
The practice of naturopathic medicine emerges from six principles of healing. These principles are based on the objective observation of the nature of health and disease and are examined continually in light of scientific analysis. These principles stand as the distinguishing marks of the profession: The healing power of nature — vis medicatrix naturae Identify and treat the cause — tolle causam First do no harm — primum no nocere Treat the whole person — in perturbato animo sicut in corpore sanitas esse non potest The physician as teacher — docere Prevention — principiis obsta: sero medicina curatur AccreditationNCNM is accredited at both the master's and professional doctoral degree levels with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The NWCCU is one of six U.S. regional accrediting bodies authorized and recognized by the U. S. Department of Education.
