New York Chiropractic College

New York Chiropractic College, in Seneca Falls, NY, prepares chiropractic leaders for the 21st century. Our aim is to offer a forward-looking program of study integrating century-old principles with the advances achieved through today's research and technology. The recently-revised Doctor of Chiropractic curriculum educates students in the basic and clinical sciences, and provides training in a broad spectrum of traditional and newer treatment techniques. It also provides for deeper exploration of topics of interest through an elective component in the curriculum. Students and faculty are encouraged to become involved in research on significant topics related to human health and disease. Eight thousand square feet of research facilities and a professional research staff support this vital aspect of the College's work.

To deliver the Doctor of Chiropractic program, NYCC has a faculty of over 90, and all courses are led by faculty members who have academic or professional doctorates related to their areas of instruction. State-of-the-art instructional facilities enable faculty and students to pursue the educational process with efficiency and comfort. These facilities include amphitheater-style "smart" lecture halls with multimedia and computer technology built in, some with data ports for each student to directly download class notes. The human anatomy center has, in addition to the traditional dissection lab, a prosection theater with large video displays of demonstrations, which are taped for repeated use by students. Physiopathology, diagnosis, radiology and chiropractic technique laboratories are among the best-equipped anywhere in chiropractic education. The library's holdings include extensive media collections (X-ray, video, specimens, slides, etc.) as well as computer access to health science databases worldwide. An on-campus health center introduces students to all aspects of hands-on patient care before they proceed to the off-campus health centers for completion of their internship.

Aside from academic, research and clinical facilities, NYCC has an athletic center equipped with basketball and racquetball courts, an 1/8-mile cushioned track, fitness and free weight areas and an Olympic pool. Eight modern residence halls round out the facilities for students.

NYCC selectively admits new students in September, January and May. The College operates on a trimester calendar. The D.C. program is comprised of eight trimesters on the main campus and two, in the internship, at one of NYCC's three health centers in Seneca Falls, Buffalo and Levittown (Long Island).

Although a majority of NYCC's entering students have Bachelor's degrees, the basic requirements for admission include 90 semester hours (113 quarter hours) of course work creditable toward a Bachelor's degree. Entrance prerequisites include one year (two semesters comprising at least six semester hours) each of General (or Inorganic) Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Physics and General Biology or Zoology. Each of these courses must include a related laboratory and must have been passed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. Additional requirements include 2 semesters of English Composition or English Communication Skills, one semester of General Psychology, and at least 15 additional semester hours of Humanities and Social Sciences. An applicant for admission is assigned an Admission Counselor who will facilitate the admission process. Applicants must furnish three references and are invited for a faculty interview before an admission decision is made.

NYCC's Career Development Center, in collaboration with other departments of the College, provides assistance to students and alumni in identifying and achieving their professional goals. Its services include career counseling, assistance in examining chiropractor-to-patient ratios and other data to identify specific geographic areas offering the best promise for new practitioners, state chiropractic laws, practices for sale and those seeking additional chiropractors, as well as help with such job-hunting skills as creating effective resumes and preparing for interviews.

To further serve alumni and the chiropractic community nationwide, NYCC's Center for Postgraduate and Continuing Education offers professional seminars on a wide array of chiropractic and other health-related topics.

New York Chiropractic College is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and professionally accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education. It holds an Absolute Charter from the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.
