Training Hours

  • 1104 clock hours

    • Four 12 week terms

    • Eight 12 week terms
    • 2-3 days per week

A new class begins every 12 weeks with three convenient times of the day to choose from:

AM 8:00-12:30
PM 1:00-5:30
EVE 6:00-10:30

Class start/end dates are:

January 21, 2008 - April 9, 2008
April 14, 2008 - July 3, 2008
July 14, 2008 - October 2, 2008
October 13, 2008 - January 15, 2009

Training

Our challenging curriculum includes over 1000 hours of massage training. Students will learn both Swedish and Oriental Massage (Shiatsu) and be introduced to : Cranio-sacral therapy, Myofascial therapy, Prenatal massage, and Reflexology modalities. Science classes include: Anatomy, Physiology, Neurology, Myology (the study of Muscles), Physical Assessment and Pathology, Business Management, NY State Law, and Health & Hygiene (including CPR and 1st Aid certification) will also be covered.

  • Approved by the NYS Board of Regents
  • Registered with the New York State Department of Education
  • Member of ABMP (Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals)
  • NYIM is in an articulation agreement with Erie Community College (ECC).
  • Affiliated with the National Program on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction (N-PONSI) which recommendeds college-level credit for most of our courses.
  • Accredited by ACCSCT (Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology)
  • Approved by INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service)
  • Approved for training of veterans by the Veterans Administration

Our Goal

Our goal is educate our students and the public on the health benefits and many uses of massage therapy. Our program stresses the clinical aspect of massage in a modern and professional setting.

State Board Exam

Graduates are thoroughly prepared and eligible for taking both the N.Y. State and National Certification (NCBTMB) Boards.

Student Clinic/Community Service

Our professional, on-site student clinic allows our students to perform 60 therapies while under the supervision of a Licensed Massage Therapist. Community service events allow students to obtain more hands-on training and raise money for local charities by performing massage.

NYIM was recognized as a School of Distinction in 2005 by the ACCSCT.

A.C.T. (Advanced Certificate Training)

Our advanced training classes allow our graduates and students to specialize in and continue to learn about different fields of massage. Classes such as Advanced Shiatsu, Infant Massage, Sports Massage, Insurance Reimbursement for Massage Therapy, Therapeutic Touch, Pregnancy Massage, Carpal Tunnel Massage, Myofascial Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy and Geriatric Massage are just some of the courses offered. NYIM's ACT classes have been host to many well known Massage Practitioners including: Aaron Mattes, LMT, Kinesiologist, and Author, and George Kousaleos, LMT and founder of the CORE Institute in Tallahassee, Florida.

Bookstore/Library

"Bodyworks Emporium"
Located inside the New York Institute of Massage, Bodyworks Emporium carries health related books, wall charts, oils, lotions, music, sweatshirts, sweatpants, essential oils, and many other items. NYIM is the Western New York massage table representative for GoldenRatio, Custom Craftworks, Oakworks, and Stronglite. A full range of table and professional equipment is available for purchase. Bodyworks Emporium hours (subject to change) are as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 11 AM - 8 PM and Wednesday, Friday from 9 AM - 6 PM

Computer Lab

our state-of-the-art computer lab gives students valuable training using computer software. Students will learn how to incorporate a computer into their future business by setting appointments and recording SOAP notes using NYIM's database.

Faculty/Staff

Instructors at NYIM are highly qualified Doctors of Chiropractic, Licensed Massage Therapists, and other specialists in their field.

Students

Our students vary in age and occupation and grow together throughout their training to form lifetime friendships. Some of our students started training as young as 17 and others waited until they were 67! We have trained nurses, chiropractors, college students, physical therapists, housewives, musicians, dancers, accountants, athletic trainers, electricians, and salespeople. We have trained people from all backgrounds.

Graduates Per Year

NYIM graduates approximately 100 students per year.

Cost

Cost $12,390.00 for tuition, $574.30 (plus tax) for books and supplies. A massage table is not necessary for training. NYIM provides massage tables and chairs for class, clinic and community service events.

Funding and Financial Aid

NYIM participates with the US Department of Education to award Federal Pells grants and Federal Family Education Loan Programs. Any student interested in applying for federal assistance must complete the free appllication for federal student aid (FAFSA). NYIM also offers tuition financing for those who qualify. NYIM will also work with third party agencies such as VESID, WIA, TRA/NAFTA, and the Veterans Administration.
