Training People Who Want To Make A DifferenceThe Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage was founded in 1997 to provide training in the science of massage and graduate exceptionally trained, highly qualified massage therapists. The school offers both full and part-time programs supported by modern equipment and multi-media library resources. The full-time program can be completed in 6 months and the part-time and evening programs in 12 months. The educational experience provides students with a marketable service, confidence, and the communication skills to help promote their business. ProgramOSTM's diverse curriculum prepares students to take the NY State board exam and gives them the knowledge and skills to begin a career as a licensed massage therapist. Students will learn four modalities: Swedish, Treatment Techniques (Connective Tissue and Medical), Shiatsu and Sports Massage. Other classes such as law and ethics, business and communications support courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Neurology and Myology. The New York State Department of Education requires 1,000 hours of education and the OSTM program meets or exceeds all state licensing board requirements. Students who successfully complete the program are then eligible to sit for the New York State licensing exam and the National Certification Exam. Continuing Education courses are also offered throughout the year. FacultyThe Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage has an outstanding faculty. Our instructors are fully trained in their respective fields, with years of experience and successful private practices. Each instructor has a unique style; the diversity in expertise enhances OSTM's well-rounded program. Peer tutoring and special accommodations for learning disabilities are available. Student ClinicThe OSTM Student Clinic allows students to practice massage in a supervised setting while providing the public with access to massage therapy. This is an integral part of the students' educational experience, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience working with a wide range of clients in a professional manner. Students are required to complete 100 hours of clinic. Additionally, OSTM goes off-site within the community to practice and promote massage therapy. Students are involved in events such as the nationally known Syracuse Jazz Fest, American Heart Association Walk/Run, American Diabetes Association Tour De Cure, Rescue Mission 25K Grand Tour and the NY State Fair.
