Pacific College of Oriental Medicine - Massage Program

Pacific College, one of the largest acupuncture schools in the U.S., was founded in 1986 with the mission of training primary health care providers in the field of Oriental medicine. Pacific provides technical medical training while encouraging compassion for and understanding of patients' deepest needs. All executive members of the College's Board of Directors are acupuncturists who lend direct, professional experience to the governance and direction of the College.

Programs of Study

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine offers the following programs at the Chicago campus:

Massage Therapy Certificate

The Massage Therapy Certificate program includes a minimum of 600 hours of instruction in Western and Asian bodywork therapies. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) Examination. This organization offers national certification that is recognized by most states throughout the country.

Asian Body Therapy Certificate

The Asian Body Therapy (ABT) Certificate program includes a minimum of 692 hours of instruction in Western and Asian bodywork therapies. This program presents a foundation in Oriental medical theory, as well as Asian body therapy. The ABT is designed for students who desire a better understanding of the theory behind many of the systems of Asian body therapy.

Having this allows the graduate the adapt massage routines to the specific needs of the patient. It is also useful for students considering a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine. Many master's students pay their way through school doing Asian body therapy.

Tui Na Certificate

Students are awarded a certificate of completion indicating their specialization in the techniques of tui na after completing the following courses:

  • Tui na hand techniques
  • Tui na structural techniques
  • Tui na for internal disharmonies 1
  • Pediatric tui na
  • Sports tui na
  • Oriental medical theory for body therapist
