Welcome to our College!

In order to bring quality Oriental medicine to Arizona, the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture (PIHMA) created an acupuncture program that would meet nationally recognized standards. Indeed, the main focus of the school is on quality and professional excellence.

PIHMA is the Valley’s first college to be approved by the Arizona Acupuncture Board of Examiners and to be awarded full accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).

We care about our students and their future in Arizona. PIHMA was instrumental in the creation of Arizona's first Acupuncture board and legislation. We employ innovative, fun, state-of-the-art learning techniques to help our students learn and perform better on exams. The students and faculty designed PIHMA’s unique alternating weekend schedule with flexible clinic shifts to better accomodate most working schedules. PIHMA requiresTai Chi and Qi Gong classes to relax the body and the mind, allowing students to connect with their own meridian system and better understand others. Most importantly, our students find that our faculty and administration are very approachable and responsive to their needs.

We know that you will obtain a fine education , well-grounded in the practical and theoretical concepts of this ancient and effective system. Just as the fiery nature of the phoenix embodies the Oriental concept of the Heart/Fire element, we also invite you to become compassionate healers, serving others with an open heart.

Our Mission

Our purpose is to educate and train students to be healing facilitators in the art, science and philosophy of acupuncture, herbal and Oriental medicine. In accordance with this purpose, we will strive to prepare students so that they may meet national and professional certification standards prescribed for the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.

Earn Your Masters Degree

The Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture school now proudly offers Masters Degrees in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture (Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education, Provisional Status).

PIHMA has also achieved Candidacy status with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Classes begin in January with an accelerated class in the summer for those who miss the January start date. Our classes are have convenient weekend and evening hours for working students. See our Admissions page for degree requirements and prerequisites.

The Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture is dedicated to helping our students attain the highest education possible in the fields of Oriental medicine, acupuncture and herbology. Most classes are taught actively with hands-on, small group and live demonstrations. Our teachers employ many of the latest techniques to keep classes interesting and learning easy.
