Our MissionThe Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy is a student-centered organization committed to promoting the art, science and profession of massage therapy through excellence in education and training. Our PhilosophyThe Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy is owned and operated by massage therapists, and has been since its inception. Our students and graduates get a great deal of comfort and confidence from the knowledge that their instructors are experienced professionals. Our approach to massage therapy training is a direct result of our total commitment to this profession. This commitment creates our goals, our curriculum and our continued desire to improve and expand the profession of massage therapy. Our philosophy affects our students, graduates and the profession in a number of ways. Initially, we begin with an interview process. This requires the potential student to provide us with character references and to meet with our admissions advisor for a personal interview. This helps to protect the students, as well as the profession, to a much higher degree than with an open enrollment policy. Massage therapy is nothing if not truly hands-on. To ensure quality training, the students begin practicing their hands-on skills in the first week of their classes. Although this may be intimidating at first, we believe there is no other way to help our graduates to be their best. The study of the human form, function and psychology create a balance of theory to the hands on training. This develops an understanding of the entire effects of massage on the individual. Our intent, as mentioned before, is to continue to improve and expand the profession of massage therapy. Another component of that is to focus on the needs of our students. Our school belongs to organizations that allow the graduate to meet many licensing and/or certification requirements, and to join professional organizations that help them in their careers. Our ProgramsThe Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy offers a comprehensive massage therapy training consisting of 684 clock hours of instruction. Our program provides a solid foundation in:
