Let us show you how!

The Pittsburgh School of Pain Management (PSPM) is dedicated to training you to “Release Pain, Restore Function and Change Lives.”

Here is one students story:

Following her own struggle with pain and successful Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, Elaine attended The Pittsburgh School of Pain Management in 1995. Following graduation and certification, Elaine began and continues a successful private practice in Rochester, NY.

"Trigger Point therapy has enabled me to help thousands of people recover from injury. It sets me apart from the crowd of bodyworkers and from those who cannot treat complex pain problems. I am forever grateful to the school and recommend it to others serious about getting results!"

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork dedicated to helping those suffering from the debilitating pain caused by tender nodules in muscles called “trigger points.” There are many programs that include trigger points as a part of their curriculum. Only PSPM is dedicated to treating trigger points according to a protocol that differentiates its graduates as Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists.

How does Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy differ from other styles of bodywork? Here are just 3 ways:

  • Most therapists who treat trigger points do so in the course of a regular bodywork treatment. Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists specifically identify trigger points utilizing a comprehensive protocol of range of motion testing, postural evaluation and pain pattern identification, neurological evaluation.

  • Most therapists have the patient draw their pain on a chart and then treat the painful area. Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists know that pain comes from muscles away from the area of pain 85% of the time and Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists work in the area where the pain is generated rather than in the area where the pain is felt!

  • Most therapists provide a treatment and they send the patient home. Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists teach individualized range of motion exercise programs, develop treatment plans, and help the patient to correct factors that intensify or perpetuate the patient’s pain.

Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy is a discipline that is both an art and a science. Many Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists work in close association with medical and holistic practitioners as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
