Career OpportunitiesThe massage therapy field is rapidly becoming a career opportunity in the country today. This is due, in part, to the greater emphasis placed on fitness and health. Involvement in this hands-on health care field offers excellent earnings, rewarding work in a stress-free environment and the opportunity to provide optimum care to clients in areas that include stress management, chiropractic offices, health facilities, athletic clubs, physical therapy, as well as private practice. PhilosophyOur philosophy at South Bay Massage College, referred to hereafter as SBMC, is to promote massage as one of the healing arts. Our focus is to have our students and teachers work closely together and have an enjoyable learning experience. Our purpose is to assist you in becoming a qualified practitioner of massage. ApprovalSouth Bay Massage College is a state-approved vocational school by the Bureau of Private & Postsecondary Education (BPPVE). Approval to operate means compliance with minimum state standards and does not imply any endorsement or recommendation by the state or by the Bureau. Physical FacilitiesSBMC is located in Manhattan Beach, it is close to freeways and 8 blocks from the beach. The physical premises of the classroom can accommodate a maximum of 28 students at any given time. Enrollment is limited to 14 students per class to maintain a desirable student to teacher ratio. SBMC is located on Sepulveda Boulevard, just north of Artesia Boulevard and is affiliated with Coastline Therapy Center which is staffed with massage therapists and licensed chiropractic doctors. Over 175 massages are performed weekly at Coastline Spa.
Massage Technician CourseSBMC offers year-round programs including daytime, evening and weekend courses.
Massage Technician Course Schedule:
The cost for the Massage Technician program is $1,595.00. SBMC offers convenient payment programs for all classes for those who qualify. Visa & MasterCard accepted. Open Houses
SBMC holds monthly open houses for Massage Technician training.
Call for the next open house date. These orientations are very
helpful in presenting to students the atmosphere of holistic
healing here at SBMC.
CurriculumThe massage technician course provides class instruction and practice. The course is offered in the daytime, evening & weekends for a six-week periods. The following classes are included in the curriculum:
Schedules
Our classes are all offered several times per year, and can be
taken as the students schedule permits. We encourage the student
to accumulate hours while building their client base at the same
time.
Materials & Equipment
All materials and equipment necessary for completion of the
Massage Technician program are available through SBMC. Students
will need to purchase an anatomy coloring book and provide a set
of twin size sheets to bring to class.
Advanced Classes, Workshops and SeminarsAdvanced Classes, Seminars & workshops are also available at SBMC. Students are encouraged to broaden their educational horizons beyond certificate courses. Over 900 additional hours may be earned with the following courses: Deep Tissue, Deep Tissue II, Chair Massage, Aromatherapy, Advanced Massage Techniques, Advanced Anatomy, Reflexology, Acupressure, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Myofascial Release Therapy, Kinesiology, Physiology, Exercise Training & Rehab, Pregnancy & student internship program. Ask for an advanced class schedule. Tuition for advanced classes is approximately $9-$10 per hour. StaffSBMC's highly qualified instructors exceed the minimum requirements set forth by the State of California. CertificationA certificate of completion will be issued upon full payment of tuition and satisfactory completion of academic and practical course work. Job PlacementSBMC works with local business owners in the community and offers a job placement board with up to date listings.
