Advanced Personal Training

Swedish Institute was founded in 1916, and although many people know about our Massage Therapy Program, our roots included exercise and fitness. The school was originally called the Swedish Institute of Physiotherapy and taught a system of wellness that included medical gymnastics and massage.

The Advanced Personal Training Program curriculum is infused with the spirit of those early classes, because the history of the field is as important as the most up to date research. The coursework provides students with a strong academic and technical understanding for the profession of fitness training. It includes the study of basic and advanced topics in exercise science, addresses client-centered practice skills, and culminates in a final externship experience.

The Advanced Personal Training Program is a 61 semester-credit-hour program that can be completed full time over a period of 16 months. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify.

Successful graduates of the program receive an Associate in Occupational Studies degree. The curriculum meets the standards of the knowledge, skills and abilities set forth for certification by professional organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Graduates are prepared to work in a wide variety of settings, such as gyms, fitness centers, health clubs, corporate fitness programs, rehabilitation centers and physical therapy offices.
