Offering training programs for those interested in more than asana practice…

About yama studio

yama studio acknowledges and incorporates the vast body of therapeutic wisdom that has been studied, practiced and taught by yogis and Ayurveda practitioners throughout the ages. yama therapeutics draws from a wide range of India's traditions, all of which can be traced back to original source materials (like the Vedas) while documenting the therapeutic value of the same practices through 21st century science.

yama studio's professional training programs are steeped in the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, or non-dualism, which accepts that while the Divine is One, the paths leading to the realization of that One are many and varied. yama studio and its staff respect the varied traditions of all who train with us and encourage those who decide to train with us to remain open and receptive to the beliefs of their fellow trainees as well as the philosophy of Sanatana Dharma (Eternal Law) which provides the basis for the sister sciences of yoga and Ayurveda.

Our yoga teacher training, meditation and Ayurveda programs are ideal for allied health professionals. We welcome doctors, nurses, social workers, school teachers, all types of therapists and school teachers who wish to deepen the therapeutic scope of their services.

"yama studio's yoga teacher training changed my life in ways that I did not anticipate. It definitely taught me a lot about the physical practice of yoga and how to improve my own practice as well as teach others. The surprise was the deeper understanding I gained of the spiritual practice of yoga in general, and of my own spirituality in particular. It literally changed the course of my life."

-Janna Allgood, graduate 2005

yama Therapeutics Training Programs

  • 200 Yoga Alliance Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training programs in three formats:
    • 9-month "Weekend a Month" program
    • 18-day Residential
    • 6-month evening/weekend program on conjunction with Carroll Community College in Westminster, MD
  • 500 Yoga Alliance Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training (21 months)
  • Meditation Teacher Training (5 weekends)
  • Ayurveda Wellness Coach Training (6 Weekends)

Between meetings of the "weekend a month programs" participants are required to connect with their "family group" (cooperative learning groups) and mentors and do homework through yama's online support center. We believe in fostering cooperation and support among our trainees.

"Although I am an Indian practicing yoga for years, I found myself intensely impressed and inspired by the yoga teacher training program at yama studio. The yoga asanas, the meditations, the chanting and the slokas were profoundly authentic, their impact so real lasting and deep.

Peace, harmony and compassion enveloped me the moment I stepped into the studio. I especially loved the inner vibration of Sundari/Diane's chanting voice, so incredibly thought-provoking as she led yoga participants through slokas from the Bhagavad Gita."

-Gurbin Kaur, class of 2007

yama Therapeutics Certification Program

yama is a supporting member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and is committed to creating and upholding professional standards in the yoga therapy community. To that end we offer the yama therapeutics certification program.

The "yama therapeutics Yoga Therapy Certificate" is conferred on a student who has completed all four of the yama therapeutics training programs for a total of 1000 training hours:

1) Basic Yoga Teacher Training - 200-hour program (Yoga Alliance registered school)
(9-month program)

2) Advanced Yoga Teacher Training/Beginning Yoga Therapy - 300-hour program to be taken upon completion of the 200-hour program for 500-hour certification (Yoga Alliance registered school)
(21-month program)

3) Ayurvedic Wellness Educator - 250-hour program
(6-month program)

4) Meditation Arts Certification - 250-hour program
